Structural edit
A structural edit provides high-level feedback on your document, addressing components such as organization, voice and tone, and the strength of arguments or key messages. I’ll review your document and provide a proposal of the edits that I suggest completing. Once you have approved the proposal, I’ll make those changes right in your document using track changes.
What you get:
An initial proposal of suggested high-level edits, customized for your document
A returned copy of your document with completed edits, using tracked changes (MS Word or Google Docs)
Content edit
A content edit focuses on the completed content of your document. This includes mechanical edits including spelling and grammar as well as sentence-level edits to improve clarity and coherence. This service can also include editing AI output to improve the voice and tone, or editing the language to meet plain language standards. Depending on the needs of your document, I can work with existing house style guides or a style guide of your choice.
What you get:
A returned copy of your document with edits completed using tracked changes (MS Word or Google Docs)
A customized style sheet defining the wording and grammar choices made in your document
Proofreading
Proofreading is the final step of editing before your document is published. Typically, this is done on a document that has already been typeset and formatted (e.g., saved as a PDF or formatted in InDesign). I’ll mark inconsistencies in formatting and any errors that may have escaped earlier stages of editing or been introduced during typesetting and formatting.
What you get:
A returned copy of your document as a PDF with proofreading marks (either digital or by hand)
